I used to think there
were three options in a woman; Beauty, Brains and Personality.
I have come to realize over the past few years that there is another very important option called
Sanity. What a wonderful experience it is to have a wife with
all four attributes!

Sousan and I were married on 19 March 2005 at Mount Lavinia Hotel, Sri Lanka http://www.mountlaviniahotel.com/

After 5 days at Mount Lavinia we hired a driver (named Sada) and van for 9 days. He drove us first to the mountains near Kandy where we checked into the Hunas Falls Hotel for 4 days (see http://www.jetwingeco.com/web_pages/media_briefs/hunas_trekki.html and http://www.jetwing.net/hunasfalls/index.html. That was a great hotel in beautifully scenic mountain ranges. It is tremendous for walking or hiking. |

Next we travel to Anuradhapura in the dry region and stayed at the Palm Garden Village Hotel for 2 days http://www.palmgardenvillage.com/Facilities.htm. After Anuradhapura we traveled to Dumbulla and stayed at the Culture Club Hotel for 2 nights http://www.srilankahotels.de/connaissancedeceylan/picgal08cultureclub.htm CULTURE CLUB WARNING: Do not leave anything behind at this hotel like I did. We left a suit and 2 jackets behind in the closet. I called culture club right away and they reluctantly agreed to send the items to me in Kuwait and charge my credit card. After a week nothing arrived so I called them. Unfortunately they did not send the items to me as agreed. Instead sending them to the travel agent in Colombo. The facilities at this hotel are okay but don't expect professional service there. |

Sri Lanka is a really interesting place to visit. I wish I knew before what I learned as our trip developed. The best way to see the island is to hire a car and driver which works out to be a very reasonable and comfortable way to travel. We hired a guy named Sada who had a Nissan van that was comfortable and had lots of room. Sada gave us the experience of a lifetime as we visited ancient sites, saw wild elephants and monkeys and even came across an Hindu ceremony in a remote village. Unfortunately the Tsunami which damaged only a small part of the southern coast, has wreaked havoc on Sri Lanka's tourism all over the island. |
|
The reality is that only a small coastal area of southern Sri Lanka was damaged by that killer wave. We never saw any evidence of damage and truly enjoyed breathtaking sites. Poor Sada had not worked in 3 months since the tsunami. I cannot say enough about how good he was and how much he added to our experience. If you are interested in visiting Sri Lanka, Sada can work out a travel itinerary with you and get much better hotel rates than you can. If you have any questions or want me to get you in touch with him, just email me. I would encourage anyone to make this trip. The people were surprisingly friendly - much more so than most countries I have visited. The food while tending to be spicy (watch out for garlic!!) was good and we never had any tummy trouble at all. Regarding food selection, everywhere we went we found a choice between Sri Lankan food and Western food. (WHOA!!! Don't put garlic on that pleeeeese!!!). The beer was cold and cheap. What more can you ask for? |
